These are the faces of 2021.
Odette Hella'Grand
Odette Hella'Grand, the drag queen who claims to be the empress with the charm of a chainsaw. Her career began at the Aids Foundation, where she distributed free condoms and had an open ear for all questions about sexual health. Today Odette is a producer and presenter, bringing joy and entertainment to all kinds of events.
Through her own shows, regular gay bingo evenings, appearances on regional, national and international television and newspaper and magazine articles, she is one of the best known travesty artist:in Switzerland. As an event producer and ambassador in the media, she is committed to the acceptance of the LGBTQI* community.
Nadja Hauser
Nadja Hauser has made her hobby her profession. She conceives TV programmes and shows and implements a wide variety of show formats. She directs, advises and books artists and loves to arouse emotions, to make people marvel, laugh and dream. With her foundation Young Stage, she manages the largest circus festival in Switzerland and with an international reputation.
In 2016 she was awarded the BASLER STERN for her commitment to Young Stage.
Eddie Hara
Eddie Hara was born in 1957 in Salatiga, Indonesia. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta and at the Academie voor beeldende Kunst kunst en vormgeving (now AKI ArtEZ) in Enschede, NL. For more than 30 years, his work has received international recognition and has been included in exhibitions at home and abroad. Eddie Hara lives and works in Basel.
His works can be seen in the Singapore Art Museum and the Museum der Kulturen Basel, as well as in private foundations, companies and galleries worldwide.
Anne Haug
Anne Haug from Basel lives in Berlin and Basel and studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. She can be seen in many cinema films such as 'Männer zeigen Filme & Frauen ihre Brüste', 'Rakete Perelman' or in 'Die fruchtbaren Jahre sind vorbei'. She also works as a writer for film and theatre productions. Since the 20/21 season, she has been a member of the ensemble and an in-house playwright at Theater Basel as part of the Stücklabor.
The author and actress will be honoured with the sponsorship award of the Schiller Memorial Prize 2022. The prize is considered one of the most important literary prizes in Germany.
Sam Himself
Sam Himself grew up in Basle and emigrated to New York ten years ago. It comes as no surprise that his music sounds like America, like indie – and yet Swiss: diverse, worldly, profound, grounded.
With his deep, striking voice, he tells stories that touch the heart and stir up emotions – songs to dance and cry to.
In October 2021, his highly acclaimed debut album Power Ballads was released.

Lea Bachmann
Lea Bachmann jumps 4.35 m with her pole and therefore higher than any other Basle woman. The 24-year-old athlete is trained by Anatoly Gordienko, studies law at the University of Basel and works part-time as a research assistant at the law faculty.
In February, she recorded an indoor personal best at the Swiss Masters in Magglingen to finish as runner-up!
Benedikt von Peter
Benedikt von Peter was born in Cologne, studied musicology, German, law and singing in Bonn. He then worked as an assistant director at various theatres and founded an independent theatre collective. From 2012 to 2016 he directed the music theatre section of the Theater Bremen. From 2016 to 2021 Benedikt von Peter was artistic director of the Lucerne Theatre. Since the 20/21 season he has been Director and artistic director of the opera at Theater Basel.
