Gemma Orkin for Ramstein Optik
In this year's summer window, we are delighted to present a special edition of bowls by ceramicist Gemma Orkin to mark our anniversary.
The artist Gemma Orkin from Cape Town has been creating ceramic objects for over 30 years. She moulds and shapes them all by hand, without any tools, in simple and classic forms. Gemma paints her works with basic colours in cream tones. She mixes the colours herself, creating very different combinations.
Her heart beats for the nature of South Africa and for the simple and sometimes forgotten things in life. Gemma grew up on a farm near Hermanus, where she grew up with her favourite motifs, South African birds and plants. Each piece is unique and carries a piece of personality.
The ceramic is made of high-fired stoneware clay, the glazes and colours are food-safe, making them suitable for both the dishwasher and the oven.
The bottoms of the bowls are unglazed and are embossed with Gemma Orkin 's name and 125 years of Ramstein Optik. The bowls are also available to purchase for CHF 35 each, which will be donated back to South Africa.
